Opening MOES in Cartesius

Last Friday, Solo and Track residents opened MOES, the temporary vegetable garden with a real greenhouse. The vegetable garden is a place of meeting, where the new residents in Cartesius get moving with each other growing fresh vegetables and herbs. The first cultivation has already taken place and the healthy recipes are well shared among themselves.

In the past year, the grant from ZonMw's "Building a Healthy Community" project made it possible to realize with residents the initiative for flexible vegetable garden boxes and a greenhouse, among other things. Residents took a vegetable gardening course through @Utrecht Natuurlijk. The first residents in the realized phase 1 live in between all the construction work for the new Cartesius urban district, but show that even in the temporality a healthy and sustainable living environment can already be realized. This is already a good prospect for the future residents of phase 2, who will move into the more than 650 new homes by the middle of next year. Thanks to the efforts of all residents and especially to Heleen Sanders, Sander Prins, Aukje Janssen, help with the layout of MOES: Eijk Groep, Eijkelboom Utrecht and Loohorst Landscaping, temporary space by Keystone Vastgoed and the ice cream truck was offered by MVGM Beheer.

The close cooperation and commitment of all partners in the Cartesius Covenant "Building a Healthy Neighborhood" made the first ZonMw project possible. The results were presented on June 19 and are now available as inspiration for other interested parties in building new neighborhoods. Thanks to everyone involved in the ZonMw project, especially Delilah Sarmo, Inès Youssef, Anton Boonen, Anna Kersten and Marije Lammers.
