Since the Middle Ages, Cartesius has served as a city pasture on the outskirts of town for city residents. Starting in the late 1940s, the Dutch Railways (NS) carried out maintenance work here on trains, trams, and buses. From the train, one could see the large, triangular site, where an internationally leading, healthy urban neighborhood is now taking shape. In recent years, this has changed with the departure of the workshops. Ballast Nedam Development has drawn up a plan for a neighborhood with high standards of sustainability and health, in which mobility has been a key focus in the planning process. 

And it all comes down to its unique location. With a dedicated station, shared mobility, and Cartesiusweg transformed into a green urban boulevard with a maximum speed of 30 km/h, getting around is effortless. Direct connections to Utrecht Central and Amsterdam make travel easy, while a diverse range of amenities and the CAB as the neighborhood’s living room create a vibrant and welcoming community.
