Highest point monumental CAB reached.

This milestone was celebrated last week with the raising of the flag on the 6-story superstructure of the monumental CAB by Paul Oremus and Geert Stielstra of CBRE Investment Management (Netherlands). These 246 apartments, intended for the free sector, lean on a unique table structure built right through the CAB. Concrete columns protrude right through the monument, while the slender steel truss construction of the CAB has been retained.

Cartesius Utrecht has been embraced by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a model project for healthy urban development. In this urban district, lessons from the science of Blue Zones are applied and monitored to create a healthy living environment. Extraordinary that precisely Michel Poulain, founder of the Blue Zones concept and inspiration for the Cartesius Concept, was present at this moment. His visit emphasized the importance of a living environment that focuses on health, biodiversity, sustainability and, above all, a healthy community.

Cartesius is a development by the Cartesius Development Consortium MRP and Ballast Nedam Development in collaboration with the Municipality of Utrecht and NS Stations, urban and landscape architect Mecanoo, project management in collaboration with Drees & Sommer Netherlands.
